Farewell to a Volunteering Hero

The people of Bradford said farewell to a special volunteering hero. Lynne Kent, (a Todmorden resident). Lynne is the former manager of Volunteering Bradford and is moving to a new role in Manchester after over 20 years dedicated service to the city's residents.

A special celebration event took place at Manningham Mills Community Centre on Tuesday 3rd November 2009. During the event Lynne's achievements were showcased with a presentation from the award winning Youth Action Team, (YAT). The YAT helps co-ordinate youth volunteering in the city as part of the national youth volunteering programme called v. Representatives from the Bradford Volunteering Strategic Partnership presented a cake and a specially commissioned piece of embroidery.

In a career spanning 20 years Lynne managed Volunteering Bradford, a local charity and the city's Volunteer Development Agency.

During that time Lynne set up the Volunteer Centre's at Shipley and Bradford as well as managing the youth volunteering programme for Millennium Volunteers and v. These innovative schemes have a team of five dedicated staff who, since 1999, have helped thousands of young people across Bradford find volunteering opportunities from within the diversity of Bradford's community groups.

More people now volunteer in Bradford than in any other comparable city in England. This amazing achievement has been led by Lynne and the fantastic team at Volunteering Bradford working in partnership with others to support organisations and the thousands of hard working and dedicated volunteers in the Bradford District.

We wish Lynne every success and happiness in her new role working in Manchester.
